Aqaba, Jordan: Five cyclists and five runners have reached the halfway point on a 350-kms journey to deliver a symbolic peace message through the heartland of Jordan and into the hands of HRH Prince Feisal Al Hussein, to launch the latest international camp for his initiative Generations For Peace.

Under the message ‘pass it on’, the baton was given a colourful launch in the Red Sea Resort of Aqaba for an event attended by Dr Sari Hamdan, Vice President of the Jordan Olympic Committee, and H.E. Ali Kreshan, Deputy Mayor for Aqaba. During its first 24 hours, it passed through several historical sites including the stunning Wadi Rum and Petra, one of the Seven Wonders of the World.

The baton is due in Al Hussein Sports City tomorrow (Monday) to launch the sixth camp for Generations For Peace, and the Prince will accept the baton on behalf of the 80 participants from 17 nationalities taking part in the 10-day camp.

Generations for Peace has become a renowned international initiative since its inception in 2007 by teaching leaders of youth on how to use sport to make a difference within communities that have been ravaged by divide and conflict. The results of the cascade programme have been staggering with more than 45,000 youngsters taking part in Generations For Peace projects to date.

The Generations For Peace baton is supported by the Jordan Olympic Committee, Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and Aqaba Governate and organised in co-ordination with the police and Civil Defense.
