Pioneer Certification Programme

The success of Generations For Peace depends on the Generations For Peace Pioneers fulfilling four main roles: peace building, working with children; training the trainers; and advocates and partners for Generations For Peace and for their communities.

The whole curriculum is composed of these four modules based on the roles of Peace Pioneers in addition to an introductory module.

Introductory Module guides delegates on how to become a Generations For Peace Pioneer, including: the Generations For Peace goals and philosophy; the roles and expectations of a Peace Pioneer; and the important role sport can play as a tool for peace building.

Working with Children Module provides information and application on how to plan, implement and evaluate a whole programme for working with children. Trainees will learn what motivates children, how to work with children of different ages, how to build self-esteem, how to design a sport practice or event, and steps for planning your Generations For Peace programme.

Training the Trainer Module covers the knowledge and steps needed to train other trainers to offer Generations For Peace projects. The module focuses on determining the needs of the trainees, and designing and implementing a training programme that will give them the knowledge, skills and confidence to work with other trainers and with children in their communities.

Advocacy and Partnerships Module helps the Generations For Peace Pioneer communicate the goals and strategies of Generations For Peace; reach out and engage their community; deal with the media, recruit and retain sponsors, role models, and volunteers; and work collaboratively with other Peace Pioneers.

Peace Building Module assists Generations For Peace Pioneers in understanding conflict and its sources, learning different approaches to managing and preventing conflict, and developing skills to assist in peace building and conflict management.

Sport Modules focus on peace-building and community sport, not competitive sport. The delegates learn how to teach basic skills and specific drills to help build an atmosphere of friendship and to help instil tolerance, understanding and mutual respect among young people from different sides of the divide. All these modules use stories, relevant examples, practical tasks, and sport to help the trainees become competent and confident Generations For Peace Pioneers. The sports vary from one camp to the next and to date, the following sports have been used: Softball, Basketball, Volleyball, Athletics, Table Tennis and Football.

Working with case studies and real projects during the camps helps prepare the Peace Pioneers to meet the challenges and opportunities of fulfilling the roles of instructor of children, trainer of trainers, an advocate and partner, and a peace builder when they return home.
