The Generations For Peace Pioneer Certification Programme is delivered during 10-day camps which include interactive classroom sessions combined with practical sports coaching and peace building.
The curriculum comprises five main modules:
• Peace Building and Sport guides delegates on how to become a Generations For Peace Pioneer including: expectations of a Peace Pioneer, and the important role sport can play as a tool for peace building and social cohesion.
• Working with Children and Youth provides information and application on how to be an effective sports leader when working with children and youth from violent and conflict situations. Trainees will learn what motivates children, how to work with children of different ages, how to build self-esteem, how to design a sports practice or event, and communication and planning skills.
• Train the Trainer covers the knowledge and steps needed to train other trainers to offer Generations For Peace projects. The module focuses on determining the needs of the trainees, and designing and implementing a training programme that will give them the knowledge, skills and confidence to work with other trainers and with children and youth in their communities.
• Advocacy and Partnerships helps the Generations For Peace Pioneer communicate the goals and strategies of Generations For Peace; reach out and engage their community; deal with the media; recruit and retain sponsors, role models, and volunteers; and work collaboratively with other Peace Pioneers.
• Peace Building assists Generations For Peace Pioneers in understanding conflict, the variables and processes, and developing a tool kit of approaches
and techniques to build peaceful solutions. Simulations and case studies help trainees plan for their own situations at home.
The Sport Modules cover an introduction to peace building and sport then sport specific skills, drills and game play, as well as planning a practice and a sports event. Activities focus on, and demonstrate, how sport can be used effectively to gather together children from different sides of a conflict and begin to build tolerance and mutual respect. All these modules use stories, relevant examples, practical tasks and sport, to help the trainees become competent and confident Generations For Peace Pioneers.
Once they have completed their first successful programme in their communities, the delegates officially graduate and become certified as Generations For Peace Pioneers. They then continue cascading their learning to hundreds of other leaders in their countries with support from Generations For Peace.
Generations For Peace continues to support its Peace Pioneers and their programmes. In return, Generations For Peace Pioneers are expected to return
home and train at least 20 trainers every year; work with at least 100 - 200 children annually; advocate for Generations For Peace; and work with other Peace Pioneers to support each other.
