King Abdullah II of Jordan Generations For Peace Research Fellowship  
 
The King Abdullah II Generations For Peace Research Fellowship will support innovative research on the intersection of sport and conflict resolution. The fellowship will complement the MA scholarship and provide opportunities to maximise interest and research among the wider Georgetown community in sport and peace building. The fellowship will be administered and housed in the Conflict Resolution Programme at Georgetown University. 
 
Fellowship candidates and activities may include the following:
 
1.   Funding for a post-doctoral candidate to:
 
·              Conduct and publish independent research or provide technical assistance, while based in the US and/or abroad;
·              Teach one course per year on sport and peace building;
·              Mentor Georgetown University students in the field; and
·              Conduct at least one public talk each semester on sport and conflict.
 
2.   The funding will provide one year’s salary (with benefits) and for research that can support participation in relevant conferences in the United States or overseas, and engagement with key organisations (governmental and nongovernmental organisations, corporations, etc.) in the United States or overseas to present findings or participate in proceedings, conduct fieldwork, provide technical assistance, etc.
 
 3.   Candidates for the fellowship will need to focus their research in one of the following areas:
 
·              Measuring the impact or effectiveness of sport and peace building programming;
·              Assessing curriculum and training in sport and peace building;
·              Exploring how to more effectively integrate peace building into sport based programming.
 4.   Georgetown’s Conflict Resolution Programme will provide the Research Fellow with two paid Research Assistants for the academic year at 10-15 hours per week, as well as office space to work.
 
Applicants will submit detailed plans of study and budgets according to the application procedures set forth by the fellowship committee in consultation with Generations For Peace. Guidelines will include timelines for application submission and fellowship notification, fellows’ requirements for reporting to both Georgetown University and Generations For Peace, etc.
 
The potential selection criteria for the fellowship includes:
 
·              Completion of PhD within the past four years;
·              Demonstrated interest/expertise in youth, sport, and conflict resolution;
·              An approved Plan of Study (or Fellowship Proposal);
·              Strong academic criteria;
·              A fellowship essay;
·              Demonstrated potential to have an impact on the scholarly/policy community;
·              Innovativeness of the proposal; and
·              Feasibility.
 
Candidates will be chosen through a competitive process. The scholarship will be awarded by a committee at Georgetown University which will be composed of faculty from the Conflict Resolution Programme, as well as members of the Conflict Resolution Programme’s Advisory Group, which includes faculty from departments across the Georgetown campus.
 
HH Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan Generations For Peace Scholarship for Graduate Studies
 
 
The scholarship will be provided to a student enrolled in the Master of Arts in Conflict Resolution Programme who embodies the mission of Generations For Peace. Though not mandatory, Generations For Peace places strong preference on candidates who demonstrate financial need, who are from conflict or post-conflict zones, and have graduated from one of Generations For Peace international training camps.
Recipients of the scholarship must meet the following criteria:
 
·     An established track record of achievement, scholastic and/or leadership.  Not just a star in the classroom, but also a leader in their local communities.
·      A commitment to improving the lives of others, as demonstrated by experience.
·     The potential to use one’s education and experience to contribute to the world’s need for greater tolerance and understanding between conflicting communities.
 
In addition to the tuition funding, the student will also receive a grant for summer field research.
 
Two Generation for Peace Field Research Awards 
 
The awards will support two candidates from the MA Programmes at Georgetown to conduct field research or internships during the summer abroad related to peace and development. In the first year, one fellowship will go to a student in the Conflict Resolution MA Programme, and the second will be open to students in one of the other identified MA programmes at the university. The candidates will be chosen by a competitive application process based on the following criteria: 
·              Academic excellence;
·              Expertise and experience in youth and sport programming;
·              Potential innovation of the summer experience;
·              Evidence of plan to disseminate learning to a wider audience (i.e. publications, conference presentations, etc.);
·              Demonstrated commitment to the field of sport and peace building.
 
For all three awards, candidates will be chosen through a competitive process. The scholarship will be awarded by a committee at Georgetown University which will be composed of faculty from the Conflict Resolution Programme, as well as members of the Conflict Resolution Programme’s Advisory Group, which includes faculty from departments across the Georgetown campus.
