It is with a sense of pride and great humility that I welcome you to the official web site for the global initiative Generations For Peace.

When I was elected President of the Jordan Olympic Committee back in 2003, I was quick to identify the role that sport can play in the every day life of our citizens. No matter the race, religion, gender or social standing of the individual, it has been my priority to make sport accessible to all.

The position has also showed me first hand the power of sport in bringing people together and, with growing international turmoil, I decided to work with like minded friends to use sport to make a real difference.

Unfortunately the world is not at peace; we don’t all live in stable communities with a guaranteed roof over our heads; and too many people don’t even have a place to call home.

But sport can help to bring a smile back to the faces of those that need it most. It is clear that the time is right to spread the peaceful message of sport globally and this is why your contribution is so important.

This is the right time because we are experiencing the greatest ever rise in division and extremism, not just here in this region, but throughout the world. Government-led solutions and diplomacy must remain the route to resolution but there is also a great need to support these top-down initiatives with grass roots actions. Therefore, Generations For Peace seeds for peace are being planted throughout the divided world.

Peace is engrained in every Jordanian. My father, the Late king Hussein was a truly pioneering peace advocate and my brother, King Abdullah II, continues to lead the call for peace. We can all play our part and this is the platform on which Generations For Peace has been launched from.

Generations For Peace can play its part in providing stability and social cohesion in the lives of young people across the world and I urge you to join us in making a difference for tomorrow, today.
